After debuting the 2010 BMW R1200RT and 2010 BMW R1200GS ahead of EICMA, BMW left some of for today at EICMA. Called Concept 6 (6-Pack internally), BMW released a concept bike that features an in-line six-cylinder motor, and takes its design cues from a futuristic cafe racer ethos.

While BMW maintains that this concept is supposed to appeal to touring enthusiasts, we can’t help but think this is a continuation of the company’s move to a younger and sportier crowd. The Concept 6 sits low like a sportbike, and its tail section screams cafe racing.

From just about any angle the six-cylinder motor can be seen, and BMW has gone to obvious lengths to accentuate the large number of cylinders, with a triple outlet exhaust on each side. Shaft-drive and a single-sided swingarm are par for the BMW course, and this might be the first BMW headlight in a while we could live with.

While we’re not sure how much, if any, of the concept bike will make it into a final design, the new motor concept seems almost certain to end up in a model soon to come.
